The president-elect celebrates "Kalikimaka" (Hawaiian for "Christmas") with family and close friends in Kailua, Hawaii.

Christmas Day plans involve opening presents in the morning and sharing a traditional turkey and ham dinner in the evening.

The soon-to-be first family is expected back on the mainland after New Year's.

NY Times: To many Hawaiians, Obama's calm demeanor embodies "the Aloha spirit."
